Akmerkez IPO
Istanbul, April 13, 2005: Dutch Corio (one of the largest quoted property companies in Europe) announced that it has subscribed to 46.9% of Akmerkez IPO.
Akmerkez REIT IPO
Istanbul, April 4, 2005: Akmerkez, one of the largest shopping malls in Istanbul launches an IPO of 49% of its shares (REIT) for 7 - 8 April. At TL36-44 per share, the market capitalisation of the company will be US$366-447m. Akmerkez will be a single asset REIT, with dividend yield.
Changes to law regarding sale of real estate to foreigners
Istanbul, March 15, 2005: The constitutional court cancelled part of the law governing purchases of real estate in Turkey to foreigners, effective in three months. Details were not given; Court Deputy Head Kilic said that the intention was not to stop sales to foreigners but to make sure sufficient pre sale checks are in place. Foreigners' purchases of real estate totalled US$1.34bn in 2004, or 80% of FDI into Turkey.
